Oh my oh my…. Ignore anything iv’e previously blogged about Rocket hitting his terrible twos… because now I see that he was a little angel compared to now!

Ever since he started nursery he seems to have matured an amazing amount. He didn’t hardly talk before, now he comes out with sentences and remembers really random words that you don’t think he will!

Unfortunately along with his gained knowledge comes a fiery temper and inability to share his toys. He tells his Dd and myself off, he screams and screams if he doesn’t get what he wants and sometimes it gets to the point that you cat even distract him. His room is now being used as a 2 minute time out room during the day.

Luckily along with the bad came a glimmer of hope, he had been waking every night in the middle of the night screaming and also refusing to go to sleep at night but we seem to have come through the other side as *touch wood* he’s slept through for the last 4-5 nights!

He however is adorable as ever and he looks like butter wouldn’t melt! I’m hoping that this stage passes quickly before I pull my hair out!

As Rockets daddy is at work today (he’s normally off so we go out all together), Rocket and I were trying to think of new thing to do. When it come to mess I’m afraid he’s like me and doesn’t like getting too dirty! ha (good in some ways but t the same time I want him to be a little boy nd have some messy play)

I mixed together the salt dough, which is so easy to make! 2 cups of plain flour, 1 cup of table salt and 1 cup of water and mix until its doughy and smooth.

I didn’t really know how Rocket would be as he was a lot younger when we did salt dough last although his nursery tells me he plays with play doh whilst he’s there. He was a little apprehensive but he let me roll some balls flat and he pressed his hand in so we could make ornaments for his grandparents. They are currently in the oven on a very low heat to dry out and then I will let him paint them!

We have an original iPad, I love it and so does rocket. He’s pretty obsessed with it but that’s ok as he has some educational apps on there and he knows his way around (which I find strange from a 2 year old!)

My complaint is with the in app advertising. I understand that when you get a free app that they want you to purchase the full version and that is fine but why after every little game does a box pop up asking you of you’d like to buy the proper version?! (bearing in mind my 2 year old is happily pressing buttons here or there and I have to watch him like a hawk incase he decides to buy half the app store by accident!)

We have a mixture of both paid for and free apps, in my opinion I’m not going to go pay £2 plus for a game unless I’ve tried it out but at the same time the free versions could just keep it short and basic without all the ‘buy nows’ as I’m fed up with it!

Infact some of the apps I downloaded today got on my nerves so much with the advertising that I just deleted them and that’s a shame as the full version could have been great but it completely put me off.

From now on il stick to buying the full games but only on the recommendation of friends. Free games for children just doesn’t work.

For example we have a kid paint app which in itself it’s a great little app but the advertising on it spans accross the screen and rocket always ends up (by accident) being taken away from the app and he gets upset.

Does anyone else find they are having the same problems?

If you have any game or learning app suggestions for a 2 year old then I’d love to hear!

A few pictures from the last few days!

We were sent a Lumiove Penguin from Pabobo to review after previously reviewing the Barbapapa. Rocket has taken ‘Pablo’ to bed with him every night since we received him back in July last year and even came on holiday with us!

The Lumilove Penguin, affectionately named ‘Pengy’ is essentially the same as the Barbapapa but with a delightful twist, it’s musical!!! It plays the special Pababo lullaby to your little one on a timer for 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes is up and the music has finished the light stays on providing a soft glow of light all night thats comforting to your little person. The music is easily turned back on by holding the button on the base of the Penguin down for 2 second or simply turned of by a quick press of the same button.

Rocket knows that Pablo and Pengy are part of his night time routine now and will climb into bed and ask for us to turn on the lullaby. At first I was wear as to if he would like the music but he really does. It’s not loud, just soft enough to comfort baby and he even can turn the music back on himself in the night if he wakes up. In the morning when I get him from his room he goes and collects Pengy to go back on charge for the day, ready for up to 11 hours of use the next night.

The Lumilove Penguin will automatically light up when removed from its charging base and also if there is a power cut, so serves as a handy comforting light in that instance too. It is suitable from birth as it uses LEDs meaning the plastic never heats up and is perfectly safe against baby’s skin.

I’m incredibly thankful for this little guy as he has helped settle an otherwise stubborn 2 year old into a sleeping routine and I know if he wakes in the night he has a familiar little penguin next to him!

Watch Rocket with his Lumilove Penguin on YouTube here.

Pabobo have kindly donated a Lumilove Penguin to one of my lovely readers, all you have to do to be in with a chance of winning this musical critter is leave a comment below telling me what your child’s favourite comforter/toy is and tweet the following:

‘I want to win a Lumilove Penguin with @TheMummyLife http://themummylife.co.uk/index.php/2012/04/19/lumilove-penguin-review-and-giveaway/ ‘

I shall select a winner at random on Friday 4th May at 12pm!

I asked people on Twitter to pick a number between 1-17 randomly and the first person to get back to me was @plasticrosaries and she picked number 3!

So going by her selection, the winner is….. @liveotherwise!! Congrats Jax!

This morning I was a mixed bag of emotions taking Rocket to nursery for the first time, but mostly excitement for him knowing how much fun he was going to have and finally getting weekly interaction with other littlies!

When we got to the toddler room I wasn’t quite sure how her was going to react, would he be clingy? would he cry? would he grab on for dear life?? as it turns out, none of the above! As soon as he saw the doors to the garden were open (and we are talking within 30 seconds) he was out and going down the slide with the biggest smile on his face! I was shocked!

I stayed about 10 minutes talking to his key worker and spying through the patio but not once did he come to find me and as I was leaving he was happy painting and drawing with one of the staff so at least I could go home confident that he was enjoying himself.

When I went to pick him up he saw me through the door before I even got to the handle and as I walked in he threw his arms around my neck the tightest he could and kissed me on the lips!

He was apparently as good as gold and really had a good time with the other children and playing outside (which I knew he would love as he’s an outdoorsy boy) He painted as well and when I was there he was showing me all the toys and blowing everyone kisses. The staff were tickled that he shakes their hands to say hello and they all were commenting on how polite he is :)

They also make healthy lunches and he apparently ate the majority of his spag bol, sweetcorn and garlic bread with angel delight whip for dessert) which really surprises me as he’s a terror at home when it comes to eating, i’m hoping he learns to eat better by watching the other children!

I put him in the car and within 2 minutes he was asleep so I transferred him to his bed for a nap and i’m soon to go wake him so I can have another cuddle as I missed him!

All in all a fantastic first experience and i’m now confident to leave him there when he starts next week! (two afternoons a week)

I’d be lying if I wasn’t a bit scared. I don’t think I’ve ever been in this house alone without him and it’s going to take some getting used to being free to do the housework without tantrums!

I’m going to miss him so much for the short hours he will be away but I know it’s going to do us both the world of good. I need the break to pace myself and do things in my own time and he desperately needs to be around other children and learn. He’s so bright and active, I’m positive within a few weeks there his speech will flourish.

I’m actually really looking forward to him being sent home with pictures he’s done for the fridge, it’s one of the things all mummies look forward to I think!

So tonight I’m going to sleep knowing my little baby is taking the next step in growing up. I guess il let you know how the first day goes tomorrow and if I even leave the carpark!
